Is Joseph Mr. Mary? #07
Posted by TsiyonFeb 18
From the modern perspective Mary is the important parent of the Nativity while Joseph has been marginalized as little more than “Mister Mary.” This IS NOT the Biblical Hebraic perspective! There is a lot more to Joseph / Yosef than is usually acknowledged these days, as you will see in this continuing look at Messiah’s family. Other program highlights include the Hebraic concept of “father” and often overlooked details of Messiah’s Davidic lineage.

Another amazing lesson; Yosef, the Just One. There is so much information in this lesson, I hardly know where to begin. I very much appreciated your presentation that Joseph was so much more than the Mr. Mary that the World sees him as today. Heir to the Throne of David; what an awesome realization. I had never heard a lesson on the lineage of Yosef in relation to the line of Kings. Thank you for that teaching. I also very much agreed with the Faith that Yosef demonstrated. What a blessing to hear directly from Yah in His Walk.
I am still sorting through many of the early writings not included in our NT; one of which discusses Yosef as a widower with children; mainly James and Joses. For me this does not contradict anything in the scriptures and in someways answers questions and reinforces concepts that Yah has put forth in the Tanak. One main concept is that Yahweh determines who is righteous and worthy; not man. The whole story of how Yosef was chosen I find fascinating and fits well with the overall plan of Yah and how the facts are laid out in what we include in the New Testament Writings.
What came to mind while listening and preparing my response is the amazing similarity/parallelism if you will in the Yosef of Egypt and the Yosef, Yahshua’s earthly, though not biological, father. Yosef brought his family Israel into Egypt to save them from death and Yosef brought his family, including the Messiah into Egypt to save him from death.
Shalom,
Christine

I have wondered over the years why Mary was the one constantly taught in church while Joseph was brushed aside as nearly inconsequential. I never understood how fathers could be so important to the family structure and we never learn about the head of Messiah’s earthly family.
Thank You for the teaching…this one ties some things together for me as I search for truth.

What escapes most people about Joseph is the fact that He was a king just like Solomon and David. Jeshua was the rightful heir to the throne of Israel. Its such a masterfully orchestrated series of events only YHWH could have pulled it off.

Something Yah has been bringing to my attention lately is who really is a believer & “saved”…the paradigm shift continues as the “church teaching” has been if you say the “sinners prayer” you are saved from hell…although this is a partial truth the whole truth is …
Rom 10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
Rom 10:10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
Rom 10:11 For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. …
“For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness…” many people before Yeshua believed in their heart….avraham, issac, yacov, david, solomon…..& Josef the father of Yeshua…& they were “saved” & didn’t say the “sinners Prayer”…G-d looks at the heart:) - I’m so glad of that!!!!
I loved looking at Josef’s response to Ya - always obedience ….may that be ours also!

This perspective of Yosef is beautifully portrayed. Thank you once again for bringing forth a fresh and loving picture from the Hebrew perspective. How much we have missed by not being taught from the Hebrew point of view! Yosef also must have been a man of deep humility as it does not seem he tried to lord his position as the true heir to the throne of the House of David over others. Such a wonderful perspective of the family of Yahshua. Just like our Abba to place His Son in a truly deserving home for His earthly mission. Bless the Name of Yahweh!

I never found so much impact on Joseph before. It makes perfect sense though.I did like the example of faith to listen and act when spoken to.This made Joseph a Rock Star of faith in the day, that G_d would trust Joseph to such an important task.I agree with teresa that too often Mary is the subject and not Joseph. But this seems to be another example of minimizing the scriptures and inserting the Greco -Roman mindset. The Patriarchal Family Order is a big part to this story and I am glad to have it highlighted.I look forward to shows #8 and #9 Yeshua’s Forerunner….can’t wait.
Peace to all the Brothers, and Sisters..

Eliyahu and Dawn take us down the spiritual path of leadership in the House of David, which Joseph choose. His obedience to hear the Word of God and be a doer of the Word of God (sounds like James) highlight the habit of Joseph’s life,to walk the path that God has put in front of us. The heir apparent of the Davidic throne names, protects and fulfills prophecy for the Messiah Yeshua, even as a baby/young boy. Mattew’s account of the first two chapters from a Hebraic point of view empathsize how important Joseph was to adding Messiah to the House of David! My goodness if I could only get people to listen to this interpretation of scipture verse by verse, the way Tsiyon portrays it! E & Dawn you surely are reproducing the masterpiece! Praise Adonai!

Honestly, I can’t get enough of these audios. I find I need to stop to leave my commentary before I’ve listened to so many more I might get them confused. Giving us such vivid pictures and humanizing Yeshua’s mother and earthly father really drives this home, that these are figures we can emulate in our own lives. For my own desires and visions and will to do my Father’s work, why would I not want Miriam as my role models just as my husband would look to Yosef as his role model. Now, having unplugged from the system and embracing the Word so accurately portrayed, yet never before conveyed, we are building the rock solid foundations to become ONE in UNITY with Him. John 17 will be fulfilled before His return. Blessings and Shalom, Kim

Thank you for pointing out that Yosef was indeed in line to be king of Yahudah. Also, it was good to be reminded that he was in a very special position–and followed the instructions of the messenger each time he had a dream, without a doubt as to its source.

How interesting I don’t think I have ever heard teaching on Joseph, I heard he died early in life (not sure if this is correct)? Yes it is very obvious in scripture that Mary had other children. The catholics and orthodox maintain Mary’s virginity I know it’s not a salvation issue but I think it is putting church tradition infront of the bible. I find myself becoming annoyed because it is so obvious- it is scary to think people will make the bible say what they want it to say, it must make Messiah and Mary very sad to think that after all he did on the cross that people pray to Mary thinking they are being humble I see it as a huge disception.
blessed to hear this Shalom

07 Joseph MrMary or Royal Heir Apparent
Shalom! Many Blessings to Tsiyon, Eliyahu and Dawn!
WOW! Praise be to YHVH! Thank you for bringing to light, Joseph! He was not irrelevant as I was previously taught and he was not just some man that happened to be engaged to Mary! {O.o} WOW!!! Joseph was just as important as Mary, without either of them…. well I am not going there! Praise be to YHVH!
The vital importance of matching Mary with Joseph is phenomenal! I think we can all relate to how relationships work and don’t work out in our own lives! The sheer fact that these two were brought together cannot be of coincidence! Only Yah could have made such a perfect match to fulfill scripture in this way!
I am touched each time I read how YHVH directly and indirectly speaks to us and through us. Our Faith in YHVH is evident when we hear from YHVH and can react without question! Joseph’s Faith in YHVH is most certainly evident!
I love it when I meet new people here in Montana. They always ask me what made me move from the warm south to Montana. I don’t get strange looks when I answer it was a dream come true, the most beautiful place on earth of my heart desires, or that I love cold weather. However, when I tell them the rest of the truth, which is that it was the will of YHVH and his Ruach HaQodesh that brought me here, they seem to stop in their tracks.
We read throughout the scriptures about communication between man and YHVH in various forms. Of late, with the Ruach HaQodesh to dwell within us as one of the gifts Yeshua sent to us. Why then is it so hard for people to accept that YHVH still speaks to us beyond biblical times? The Ruach HaQodesh speaks within our soul the words of YHVH. Attuning ourselves to hear YHVH and aligning ourselves in HIS ways and obeying HIS commandments with Hebraic understanding helps us become better communicators with YHVH.
May YHVH make me an instrument to help in the restoration of the Remnant of Israel for HIS Glory!
Still amazed and seeking to learn more.
Shalom!

Greetings,
How unbelievable that Joseph was actually the Heir to the throne of Israel! Not that it is ‘not believable’ but that the church covered that up for so many centeries. I say ‘covered up’ in the sense that it seems that the church was willfully negligent in presenting the truth to its followers (namely me and the countless millions of others through the past 1900+ years).
When I try to remember what I thought of Joseph as I was growing up, I think of him as playing a very insignificant role in the whole story. ‘Well Mary needed a husband didn’t she? She couldn’t very well bring the Messiah into the world as a single mother. Joseph was a just man, a good man. He should do for the job.’
It’s mind boggling to think that for all of these centuries no one picked up on this tidbit of information, that is that JOSEPH WAS THE HEIR APPARENT TO THE THRONE OF ISRAEL!! HELLO! How could I and the most of the church have missed this? Not that I’m anybody, but I have read the Scriptures. I have read the accounts of the Kings of Judah and Israel. I’m not a Bible scholar, but those who have dedicated their lives to the study of the Scriptures could have seen this. (I could name perhaps a dozen well known gentlemen off the top of my head, from the various Protestant denominations, that should have picked up on this.) It may seem like I’m making a mountain out of mole hill but this concept has far reaching ramifications. It makes me think, “What else have we missed, or not have been taught? Was this a willful act to mislead people for hundreds of years or just spiritual blindness?” I’m a bit angry, I guess. I have some forgiving to do. I certainly owe YWHW and Joseph an apology.
Eliyahu, you present Joseph and the faith that he had in God so clearly. I agree with you that Joseph truly had a special relationship with YHWH. And how YHWH trusted Joseph! That is an amazing testimony to the caliber of man he was. That alone speaks volumes about Joseph. Dare I say it puts him the same class as Abraham and Moses as great men of faith. Am I overstating this?
I sometimes put myself in Joseph’s place and wonder if I would have near enough faith to do what he did. I could see myself trekking through the desert, in the dark, with a wife and baby in tow, on a donkey (not an SUV), looking up at the stars and asking,
“Really, Lord?” “Seriously?” “Is this really the plan?” “Wouldn’t it have been easier to just take care of Herod back there and we could’ve saved us all this hassle?”
No, Joseph never said a word. He did what he was told and I bet he did it with the right heart.
I have a new respect and admiration for Joseph.
Shalom.
Don

Amazing! Though I had read this accounting of the geneology before, I never connected it the way this program explains. For Yahweh to entrust both Yoseph and Miriam with the responsibility to be a protector and succorer to Yahshua our Messiah, speaks volumes of the character of these two people.
Now I see why they called Yahsua the King of the Jews!!!! He was a part of the direct line of kings. Now I see that this was the reason why He told people not to tell about Him to others. Just as Yoseph was rightful heir to the throne and hid himself in abscurity to protect his life; so Yeshua knew that the Herod (edomite) would also seek to take his life. This is why the people tried to literally take Yahsua and place him on the throne… WOW!

Thank You for this teaching ! I never heard of Yoseph being the rightful heir to the throne due to his being of the house of David.

Several points in this program have added to my understanding of Joseph and the events in his life. First the meaning of just in the sense of tsaddiyq. To me it seems that by putting Mary away privily was so as not to bring attention to himself in respect to his upholding of the Davidic covenant. This is very informative to me in that I have yet more insight into the Hebraic culture and mindset but ultimately a better understanding of scripture as a whole. Second item is the uncontested geneology of Yeshua. This is profound, fulfills prophecy and is an apologetic tool to the naysayers. Third is Herod’s determination to wipeout competition to the throne. It seems he believed he was the promised Messiah but I have to conclude he believed he was an earthly political savior instead of the Son of God. (1 Cor 2:8). Fourth is Joseph’s obedience and closeness to God. What it means to be just and walk the path. This inspires me seek God more. I want a relationship like this.

Joseph, Son of David, heir to the throne! His legal, rightful place on the throne of David! It is so clearly and logically written in the first chapter of the ‘New Testament’. Yet we missed it! If we missed such an obvious truth, how many more truths have been buried beneath our cultural ignorance and blind acceptance of the traditions of man.

This session blew my mind. How had I (and most of Christendom) missed the fact that Joseph was the heir to the throne and that he was the Tsadeek? I feel ashamed of my prior attitude towards Joseph now I know how special, righteous and God fearing he was. Instead of ignoring him we would do well to take a leaf out of his book when it comes to obedience to God. I wish I was half as obedient and loyal as Joseph had been, he is truly a fantastic role model. I loved the way that Joseph was given the name for Messiah, and that God accepted him as the earthly father to His Son. How I would love to sit at Joseph’s feet and learn the ways of the Davidic line like Yeshua must have done. Praise God that we have these precious scriptures and the Holy Spirit to open them up to us!

Yet more outstanding teaching in this session. Thank you so much for bringing the truth out and sharing it with us. Like all of the above posters, I was blown away by the revelations about Yosef. I have heard so many teachers, both Christian and Messianic, trying to explain the genealogy in Matthew away by saying that it was really Miram’s genealogy from a different line. There are no grounds at all for this mis-teaching, the same word is used for begat each time throughout the genealogy, it doesn’t suddenly change when we get to Matthew 1:16 (I have heard this taught).
The truth has been there for all of us to see for so long, and yet so many of us have missed it. The rightful heir to the throne stripped of his position by the ‘church’ for almost 2000 years, and again, I fell for it. As Akushla says, how many other lies have we fallen for?
What a blessing to know the truth and to learn about this wonderful man whom God called Son of David! (How did I miss that?!) It makes so much sense that this Just man would be the choice to be Yeshua’s earthly father, what a travesty that he has been so swept aside.
Absolutely beautiful and truly moving. Praise YHWH!

Another eye opening lesson for me.
I didnt know very much about Joseph other than the fact that He was betrothed to Mary. Maybe I could have learned more about him in my study time. I cannot say that I catch on very quickly. :0(
It makes so much sense that Josef was in line to be the next King. Of course he was! I have so much respect for this earthly father of Yeshua our Lord. He had to have so much trust in Yahweh. It all makes so much more sense now who our Lord is. . The Jewish Messiah who came directly from the lineage of David. Praise God for being so faithful. His word will endure for eternity. With Him (thank goodness its not left up to us humans) all things are possible.
It frustrates me too that we have been kept from things as HUGE as this in the church. I’ve only been a member of Tsiyon for a few months and I could make a list of things I’ve learned from Eliyahu that has NEVER been heard in the church. What are they teaching in the seminaries to these young pastors? Do these older pastors who have studied the scriptures for years, not come to realize these truths. I feel as if the churches are filled with sheep with no sheperds to lead them to truth. I needed a sheperd.
I know I have to start praying for my pastor and the others in the church and try and share these truths with them. May Yahweh prepare their hearts.
Thank you Eliyahu and Dawn.

What a valuable lesson. It never dawned on me that Joseph had the right of kingship to the nation of Israel. It seems to me that Joseph, the Just One, must have really had a difficult time finding out Miriam was with child and he knew he was by rights the heir to the throne.
I find Hebraic customs so facinating because they are so different in our age and the culture we were raised in. We can not understand the NT unless we have a basic knowledge of the customs of Israel, especially of the first century.
In my past studies I read that “carpenter” was a Hebraism for an itinerate rabbi, a traveling teacher of Torah; one who built on the Word. I have often wondered if this was the real meaning of carpenter rather than a worker of wood as is commonly understood. Has anyone else come across such information? Joseph was certainly an obedient and righteous man of God.

Hello all,
Cool program Eliyahu. Never met anyone who could make Chronology interesting lol. Thanks to you sir I’ve learned that Joseph was way way more than just a blip in the Bible. This man would have been king if it were not for all the crazy crap that went on with Israel beforehand. Something else that is truly inspiring is the fact that he listened and obeyed Yahweh without any backtalk or hesitation. We all need to be like Joseph in that respect. How many people would even consider doing what he did. He truly was an epic man of God. Its to bad there isn’t more info about him in the bible Cuz I would like to know more. Oh well I’m sure he’ll be in the kingdom so one day ill be able to ask him myself. Well with that I’m done for now. On to Messiah’s forerunner. Have a nice day
Comment by Lin on December 21, 2011 at 8:10 pm
Thank you for clearing this all up. 30 years ago I had been taught that this was the genealogy of Mary and that ‘husband’ was really to be ‘father’ and could be checked with the 14, 14, and 14 generations. I must admit I never searched this out on my own to understand the role of Joseph, the rightful king. I never ever heard that Yashua was the rightful heir to the throne at that time. Again I think of the righteousness of these families and how wonderful it is to know who we are. In our present culture oftentimes it is the mother who bears the responsibility of care and protection of the family. How I look to the new heaven and earth where our roles will once again be set right. One question, was Joseph a carpenter? Thanks again.

Having been raised under the influence of gentile Churchianity, Joseph was always this guy in the background - indeed “Mr. Mary”. Well, this lesson dispelled with that error very nicely! Far from being some “run of the mill” carpenter in the boondocks of Galilee, Joseph was the heir to the throne of David - the Tsadik or Just one of his generation. Since he was the “geber”, “a valiant man, a mighty man, the patriarch of the family” and Yeshua was the first born in his family, Yeshua became the heir to the throne of David of His generation.
Analyzing his behaviour, one sees a man who indeed is “mighty and valiant” in the service of God. He did what God required of him simply so, no questions, no complaints, nothing except simple and immediate obedience. Praise God!
