Having been raised under the influence of gentile Churchianity, Joseph was always this guy in the background - indeed "Mr. Mary". Well, this lesson dispelled with that error very nicely! Far from being some "run of the mill" carpenter in the boondocks of Galilee, Joseph was the heir to the throne of David - the Tsadik or Just one of his generation. Since he was the "geber", "a valiant man, a mighty man, the patriarch of the family" and Yeshua was the first born in his family, Yeshua became the heir to the throne of David of His generation.

Analyzing his behaviour, one sees a man who indeed is "mighty and valiant" in the service of God. He did what God required of him simply so, no questions, no complaints, nothing except simple and immediate obedience. Praise God!

Thank you for clearing this all up. 30 years ago I had been taught that this was the genealogy of Mary and that 'husband' was really to be 'father' and could be checked with the 14, 14, and 14 generations. I must admit I never searched this out on my own to understand the role of Joseph, the rightful king. I never ever heard that Yashua was the rightful heir to the throne at that time. Again I think of the righteousness of these families and how wonderful it is to know who we are. In our present culture oftentimes it is the mother who bears the responsibility of care and protection of the family. How I look to the new heaven and earth where our roles will once again be set right. One question, was Joseph a carpenter? Thanks again.

Hello all,
Cool program Eliyahu. Never met anyone who could make Chronology interesting lol. Thanks to you sir I've learned that Joseph was way way more than just a blip in the Bible. This man would have been king if it were not for all the crazy crap that went on with Israel beforehand. Something else that is truly inspiring is the fact that he listened and obeyed Yahweh without any backtalk or hesitation. We all need to be like Joseph in that respect. How many people would even consider doing what he did. He truly was an epic man of God. Its to bad there isn't more info about him in the bible Cuz I would like to know more. Oh well I'm sure he'll be in the kingdom so one day ill be able to ask him myself. Well with that I'm done for now. On to Messiah's forerunner. Have a nice day :)

What a valuable lesson. It never dawned on me that Joseph had the right of kingship to the nation of Israel. It seems to me that Joseph, the Just One, must have really had a difficult time finding out Miriam was with child and he knew he was by rights the heir to the throne.
I find Hebraic customs so facinating because they are so different in our age and the culture we were raised in. We can not understand the NT unless we have a basic knowledge of the customs of Israel, especially of the first century.
In my past studies I read that "carpenter" was a Hebraism for an itinerate rabbi, a traveling teacher of Torah; one who built on the Word. I have often wondered if this was the real meaning of carpenter rather than a worker of wood as is commonly understood. Has anyone else come across such information? Joseph was certainly an obedient and righteous man of God.

Another eye opening lesson for me.
I didnt know very much about Joseph other than the fact that He was betrothed to Mary. Maybe I could have learned more about him in my study time. I cannot say that I catch on very quickly. :0(

It makes so much sense that Josef was in line to be the next King. Of course he was! I have so much respect for this earthly father of Yeshua our Lord. He had to have so much trust in Yahweh. It all makes so much more sense now who our Lord is. . The Jewish Messiah who came directly from the lineage of David. Praise God for being so faithful. His word will endure for eternity. With Him (thank goodness its not left up to us humans) all things are possible.

It frustrates me too that we have been kept from things as HUGE as this in the church. I've only been a member of Tsiyon for a few months and I could make a list of things I've learned from Eliyahu that has NEVER been heard in the church. What are they teaching in the seminaries to these young pastors? Do these older pastors who have studied the scriptures for years, not come to realize these truths. I feel as if the churches are filled with sheep with no sheperds to lead them to truth. I needed a sheperd.
I know I have to start praying for my pastor and the others in the church and try and share these truths with them. May Yahweh prepare their hearts.

Thank you Eliyahu and Dawn.

Yet more outstanding teaching in this session. Thank you so much for bringing the truth out and sharing it with us. Like all of the above posters, I was blown away by the revelations about Yosef. I have heard so many teachers, both Christian and Messianic, trying to explain the genealogy in Matthew away by saying that it was really Miram's genealogy from a different line. There are no grounds at all for this mis-teaching, the same word is used for begat each time throughout the genealogy, it doesn't suddenly change when we get to Matthew 1:16 (I have heard this taught).

The truth has been there for all of us to see for so long, and yet so many of us have missed it. The rightful heir to the throne stripped of his position by the 'church' for almost 2000 years, and again, I fell for it. As Akushla says, how many other lies have we fallen for?

What a blessing to know the truth and to learn about this wonderful man whom God called Son of David! (How did I miss that?!) It makes so much sense that this Just man would be the choice to be Yeshua's earthly father, what a travesty that he has been so swept aside.

Absolutely beautiful and truly moving. Praise YHWH!

This session blew my mind. How had I (and most of Christendom) missed the fact that Joseph was the heir to the throne and that he was the Tsadeek? I feel ashamed of my prior attitude towards Joseph now I know how special, righteous and God fearing he was. Instead of ignoring him we would do well to take a leaf out of his book when it comes to obedience to God. I wish I was half as obedient and loyal as Joseph had been, he is truly a fantastic role model. I loved the way that Joseph was given the name for Messiah, and that God accepted him as the earthly father to His Son. How I would love to sit at Joseph's feet and learn the ways of the Davidic line like Yeshua must have done. Praise God that we have these precious scriptures and the Holy Spirit to open them up to us!

Joseph, Son of David, heir to the throne! His legal, rightful place on the throne of David! It is so clearly and logically written in the first chapter of the ‘New Testament’. Yet we missed it! If we missed such an obvious truth, how many more truths have been buried beneath our cultural ignorance and blind acceptance of the traditions of man.

Several points in this program have added to my understanding of Joseph and the events in his life. First the meaning of just in the sense of tsaddiyq. To me it seems that by putting Mary away privily was so as not to bring attention to himself in respect to his upholding of the Davidic covenant. This is very informative to me in that I have yet more insight into the Hebraic culture and mindset but ultimately a better understanding of scripture as a whole. Second item is the uncontested geneology of Yeshua. This is profound, fulfills prophecy and is an apologetic tool to the naysayers. Third is Herod's determination to wipeout competition to the throne. It seems he believed he was the promised Messiah but I have to conclude he believed he was an earthly political savior instead of the Son of God. (1 Cor 2:8). Fourth is Joseph's obedience and closeness to God. What it means to be just and walk the path. This inspires me seek God more. I want a relationship like this.
