After Messiah ascended to heaven it would be up to his disciples / talmidim to represent His Kingdom in the world. The record of how they undertook that great commission is found in the Bible book of Acts. Many people mistakenly think of Acts as the story of how the “new religion” of Christianity got started. However, as we take more than a surface look at the first chapter of Acts we find nothing about starting a new religion. What we find is a meeting of the leadership of those first believers, giving us a look into the internal government of the early believers in those first days after Messiah left them to the work. Rather than starting something new we find them continuing something that had been around already for a very long time. What they were continuing is the Kingdom Government of Israel which was already well-established in their midst. This look into a meeting of the earliest eldership of the early Messianic believers will open your eyes to a whole different book of Acts than the one you may have always heard about. Acts is the story of the faithful Remnant of Israel in action!

Throughout His ministry Yeshua the Messiah displayed Kingdom power. He preached the good news of the Kingdom, cast out devils, healed the sick and even raised the dead by that awesome power. In fact, in the greatest display of Kingdom power of all time He even overcame death itself when He Himself was raised from the dead! For a period of forty days after His resurrection He taught His chosen Emissaries about the Kingdom and promised them the same Kingdom power that He had demonstated. As we begin a fresh look at the Acts of the Emissaries we will consider Messiah’s promise of Kingdom power, what that power is, what that power was meant to accomplish, and what He taught them about the Kingdom. We will also consider the “rapture” of Messiah and what that means for the “rapture” of believers. All of this is essential information regarding the foundation of the early believing community and is still fundamentally important for all talmidim / disciples today!

It seems that at the start of every Torah Year someone out there feels a need to attack the Torah Calendar. Torah requires that the first month of the year for Israel is the month of Abib (new barley), which seems to clash with the religious traditions of some folks. Along with thousands of others I received such an attack in my email box recently. Since I found the attack not only in error but also slanderous I am offering this rebuttal of the main points of that article. The article was entitled: “Is the Aviv Barley a Determining Factor Today?”  The first argument against Aviv barley signaling the beginning of the year goes something like this: “The Kairites believe in it. That makes it a Kairite doctrine. The Kairites are bad because they don’t believe in Yeshua. Therefore, if you accept that barley has anything to do with the timing of the new year you are one of those nasty unbelieving Kairites!” This is, of course, nonsense. Today is the first day of the Torah month of Abib / Aviv, which is the first month of the Torah year. This first Torah day of the month of Abib is from sundown to sundown of March 20-21 on the Gregorian Calendar. This is just a little reminder, in case you may not have done it yet, to sanctify (set apart) this new year to YHWH. You will find your new year will go so much better if you start out by giving it all to Him!
